Beef Stroganoff HHHHMMMM AAAAHHHH

So Callie popped out today for some shopping and when she came back said she got couple of nice steaks, Portobella Mushrooms and the bits to make Beef Stroganoff hhhhmmmmmm says me sounds like good food for next couple of days.

Now warning signs should have rung when she said " will make Stroganoff tonight as much quicker?

Now below is my idea of Beef Stroganoff

Tender chunks of beef and mushrooms ( I always use small onions as well ) cooked in a cream sauce and served over rice or mashed potatoes. wwhhhhho was I looking forward to it.

Now comes the rub , pop into the kitchen for coffee and see beef mince on the side .

Whats this for darling I say?

Beef Stroganoff is the answer What?

Then I see the master plan a box of hamburger helper ( A LA Beef Stroganoff )

Now you know why when Callie says she misses me it is because I am normally the cook

Morning Breakfast Antics....................

Hurry it up, lady!

Fine, We'll show you how hungry we are!

I'll make the dogs crazy!

Finally, some satisfaction....................

Oh Yeah, That's what we're talkin' about!

Catching Up & Awards.........................

Boy, I've got a lot of catching up to do! First, I received some of these awards some time back and I'm finally getting to them! This award I received from my paint mare sister, Lisa, over at Laughing Orca Ranch . Thanks so much Lisa, sorry it's taken me so long to get this posted. I really didn't forget!

Next, I received this Lemonade Award from The Saddle Mountain Rider, my friend over at Middle Of The Road . And again, I say sincerely Thank-you so much and sorry it took me so long to get this up.

And next, my friend Arlene over at Grey Horse Matters gave me this lovely Friends Award. Thanks so much, Arlene, I do consider you a good friend.

The next award I just received from Linda at The Mane Point , and this one requires me to list ten things honestly about me. Oh Boy, I think ya'll know me pretty well, but here it goes.
1) I've lived a pretty adventurous life thus far, starting at aged 16 and now I really like to be home with Steve and the critters. (Too many things to really go into, but I've traveled.)
2) My favorite food, I'd say would have to be Spaghetti Marinara, no meat and from a nice Italian Restaurant.
3) Stephen is my best friend and soul mate. I truly believe this. We started together a little late in life, but I plan on us getting quite old together.
4) I live in a converted barn and as big as this damned thing is, and as hard as it is to keep clean, I love it. I think it's pretty cool!
5) I have non-traditional spiritual beliefs and do not like organized religion. Not for me anyway, if it works for my friends, then it's all good, but for me, it doesn't work and in the end, if we live a good honest life and are kind to others and live by those Golden rules, it's all the same. You'll find a gator head hanging from a tree in my yard, a hand made broomstick hung above the front door and various other bits and pieces around this place, but I've never had a guest visit and not love it here.
6) I love our children, both two legged and four! I can't imagine life without any of them and am truly grateful to have them all, both furry and non-furry!
7) My Dad was killed while on his Harley coming home from work by a drunk driver in 1990. My Mother was killed while on her Harley going to a HOG event by a drunk driver in 1999. My Dad and his partner, way back in the early seventies, started the first international motor-cross races in the states. I was a kid back then, but I remember it all very well. Pretty cool!
8) My favorite places in the world are in England and New Orleans! Happy Fat Tuesday everyone. And no, I've never shown my "ta-tas" for beads!
9) I spoil all of our animals........too much! So does Steve!
10) Which brings me to the picture below. My Mom had a beautiful singing voice and played the piano and organ. Back in the 1960's, she sang with this beautiful group of women as The Lost Chords. They were on the Ted Mack Amateur Hour on television back then and traveled all over the country to sing. I was very little, like a toddler little. I would love to find the film footage of it someday. Can you guess which she is?

We're Due For...........

Five to eight inches of snow tonight! Yay! I'm off to work soon and that means I'll be driving home in it in the morning with chores to be done before I'm off to work again tomorrow night . Looking forward to that, NOT! Jack's piddles outdoors are few and far in between. Another Yay! Steve is managing to get them out at least at eight pm long after I'm at work. Tomorrow will be the challenge getting enough sleep to be able to work another 12 hours Saturday night and actually stay awake. Worried about that. Well, we'll cope somehow. I was able to sleep in somewhat today, but I only worked 4 hours last night, so sleep came easy. It's always hard to sleep enough hours on a normal weekend much less having to had a few chores prior to hopping into bed. I also have to figure out when I'll get these dogs to the Vet. I think Mina has a urinary tract infection, so I've been trying to get cranberry juice down her in the meantime and Spot has a case of the poo drizzles and puked a giant egg shaped whatever today. It never fails, a weekend. I also have a four hour mandatory shift to do on Monday evening. And then the house will need another clean up, however it isn't too bad considering. Poor Steve is feeling useless, but he was able to straighten out the pellet burners today while I slept, so he is able to contribute here and there, even if he doesn't think so. Well, off to another long night, but a decent paycheck in the future. Last night, I was in charge and was a mandatory, so there'll be a little extra pay for that, Thank God!

Here Comes Our Snow Again...............

On a good note, Jackson did tinkle outside while I had him tied this afternoon during feeding chores. I praised him a lot!

He is too cute otherwise.

Misty pining for more pasture......Not going to happen missy!

Miss Kola asking if that was it. Always looking for more food as if she needs it.

Calling All Dog Whisperers!

Now I've raised a few pups in my time and rather successfully. I've always used a crate, however in the case of Spot the Border Collie, we gave up on the crate and flunked puppy kindergarten, BUT in saying that he is very well behaved and was easily potty trained with pads first, then outside. He knows his boundaries, however we allow him to kiss. Mina came to us not housebroken and it only took a few weeks to get her there and now she gives me cues when she needs to go outside. The old man was crate trained and has never ever had an accident in the house.
Onto Jackson, hmmmm, this is the only dog I know that is perfectly comfortable crapping and peeing in is crate and sleeping in it. I do not get it. He is not crated for long periods of time at all. In fact I've now resorted to leaving the crate door open for him in hopes that he'll sleep at night in there without peeing and pooping and so far he has. Puppy pads? Forget it, we tried it! He tares them to pieces and doesn't pee or poo on them even with proper encouragement. I take him outside on the lead every time I take the others out, anywhere from every two to three hours from 6am to 8 or 9pm. The only time I saw him pee outdoors was when I tied him next to the horses while I did chores and I praised him for it. He is a smart little turd, but I am at my wits end on how to get him potty trained. He doesn't cry all night, he knows when it is bed time. He also knows when it is 6am and begins his morning alarm clock yaps!
Anybody, anybody with any suggestions, I'll gladly listen..................

Things Are Getting Easier For Me, Anyway.......

Last night the coyotes returned, so I found myself out on the deck with my little gun in my slippers at 11pm shooting into the field beyond the goats and girls. It did scare them off. I need a rifle with a night sight!

I decided to pick up some electrolytes for the mares as on Sunday, when I put their blankets on again and bleached the trough and refilled, they both looked a little tucked up. They never seem to drink enough water in the winter in my opinion so I thought it wouldn't hurt. I also put their salt block in their hay feeder.

They also got some fresh treats in more ways than one.

I gave them a little pasture time after I fixed the fence.

The girls came in from the pasture easy enough and were happy enough to have their evening hay.

The goats were silly as usual.

Here's Stephen's X-Rays. I counted a total of eight screws and one plate. No bone growth yet, but they didn't expect it yet. He goes back for another follow-up in three weeks. Still absolutely no weight bearing at all.

Here he is making a face at me as his cast dries. I chose the color. I told him he had better be nice or I'll have the nurse make the cast hot pink! I like the green. He moaned at me because he thought it was too bright! At least now his ankle is more stable.

A Quick Update.....................

Stephen apparently not very happy with his photo op! Mr.Pearson has been hobbling around and his office is still in quite a state. I don't dare touch his paper work! He has his first follow-up appointment tomorrow. I'm hoping he gets hard casted and all looks good. Not sure if I'll still make it to work Friday. We'll just see how he does and play it by ear. I did get approved for a few short hours of FMLA.

Of course, yesterday it nearly hit 60*F so I removed their blankets and now I'm feeling guilty because it has rained nonstop since last night. Although it's still in the 30's to 40's. I didn't notice any shivering and I don't want to put those blankets back on while they are soaked.

Miss Misty is muddy! I had to move the feeder towards the straw I had layed so that they don't stand in 6 inches of mud while eating! I hate this in between time of year.

Miss Kola waiting for me to get to it and feed them!

And then there are the normal antics..............

And mix a little or should I say a lot of mud! Makes for some fun and continuous house cleaning!

It Takes Two, Baaabyeee.................

It takes two baaabyeee.........................

But I'm down to one.................
Yep, Just down to one................LOL!

A lesson learned! You never realize exactly what your partner does do to contribute to the house hold until you are doing both his jobs and yours! I mean you do know in the back of your head somewhere, but it really comes to light when suddenly faced with the reality of it.
Steve's jobs included bringing up the 40# bags of wood pellets and keeping those stoves running, occasionally keeping the kitchen clean and in charge of the taking the garbage out and down to road, amongst other tasks, and running errands here and there. And working more than 16 hours in a day on his websites. Also he was the chief cook and bottle washer.
Callie's jobs include feeding & watering of all animals(15?) including managing 3 fish tanks, I've lost count! Keeping house clean, occasionally bringing in a bag or two of wood pellets, managing the 50# bags of horse and goat feed, topping off bales of hay. And running various errands as well and occasionally cooking and working my normal weekend hours as well as my mandatory shifts as it is peak census at the hospital right now. And being allowed to be "dead" on Sundays after my MS chemo shot. That takes me 24 hours to recover from.
Add to this, Stephen's care, although he's getting better at scooting around a bit. On the good note, poor guy finally received his first shower last night after some innovative thinking on my part. Changing the shower head to one that can be detached and finding a plastic stool for him to sit on in the shower. The other challenge and he'll kill me for posting this, but first he'll have to catch me(heheheheh) was getting him to poop! Which required a few extra options bought at Walmart pharmacy. LOL! We've made progress.
I'm getting Jack outside with the other dogs which is about every two hours. I still have to carry him downstairs, however he has finally mastered getting up the stairs (Thank God) on his own. Jack the puppy that is. He still doesn't get the concept of doing his "doodie" outside. And I have these dogs out for 30 to 40 minutes each time.
I've managed to get the house mostly under control, but it took a lot of elbow grease. Still have two loads more of laundry, this is after doing six loads between us over the past week. Steve's office was a tip! It really needs a good clean and I have to strip his bed after yesterdays meltdown outside. MUD! Add two cats that Mina has decided to go after that have sequestered themselves to our bedroom, which requires making sure their water and food has to be constantly replaced. And making sure his outdoor wild birds are fed. That was his thing. I finally refilled all of the seed, the birds are happy! And his office birds. Good grief!
My last task today, besides getting to good old Wally world again will be to do those bits of laundry, tidy up the basement apartment before Zoe gets home and suck out the archway of basement cobwebs that have collected near the laundry room. Looking forward to that!
Anyway, besides being exhausted, I think we have sort of a routine set down. I'm hoping that Steve will be hard casted on Thursday of this week and I'll be able to work the weekend. I must slip out for 4 hours to work on Tuesday night for annual Nursing Ed. Needless to say, this has been truly a challenge. I still do appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers. And I must admit, "Kaylee" did give some comic relief, especially when I blew! Oh I just laugh my ass off at that right now! We're managing somehow, I'm not sure how I'll mange work this weekend and sleep. Night shifters do have to sleep during the day and with all of this set back, my MS is acting up a bit. Today I am just tired! Plan on an afternoon nap at some point.
Thanks again, All for your support!

I Apologize, It'll Be Awhile Before.........

I can get out to visit you all. I appreciate all your support and comments and prayers. Again Thank-you so much! It's just a full time job right at the moment, my chores, Steve's chores and the care I'm providing for Steve. I'm sure I'll get a routine down soon, already starting to. And when I have a moment, I promise to visit all of you! Take care and I'll be back soon!

You Guys Are The Best

I really want to Thank-You ALL for the well wishes and prayers! It's nice to know your are all out there thinking of us. I've got him home now. It was a bit of a challenge, but he's tucked into bed with Percocet and Valium on board. I can't even begin to tell you all how nice it is to have you all out there. I'm really grateful to have such great blogging friends! People I've never met in person. It's an awesome feeling knowing that you are there with words of support! So thank-you all so very much! I love you guys!

Well, This Has Been One Hell Of A Day...........

Just for starters, Stephen managed to break his ankle in three places by slipping on the ice whilst picking up the mail. Of course, I was indoors and cleaning the house, so I didn't hear him yelling for help. The dogs were barking and I figured he was down in the garage futzing around with the stack of wood pellets. He managed to drag himself to the downstairs door and yell loud enough. At first, I couldn't quite connect the noise I was hearing and then I realized he was screaming "Help". I ran downstairs and Holy Shit! What an ankle! Or perhaps an "angle" because his foot was not facing the correct direction! He was pissed at me for not hearing him sooner and in his Steve way insisted I make him some coffee before racing to the ER. The car was still running and sitting at the end of the driveway. Reluctantly, I gave him his coffee, even though I knew this meant surgery. Retrieved the car and parked it as close as I could to where he was downstairs. Practically carried him to the car and off we went. It's a 35 minute drive, I got us there in 20 without a ticket. He had not only broken it, but dislocated it as well. So with some awesome drugs and an IV, Mr.Pearson went to babbling while the ER Doc reduced the dislocation and fracture. The Ortho Surgeon was called and then Cardiology to see him in order to clear him for immediate surgery. The good news is that even with his heart history and the fact that he had an MI at aged 35yrs and was told he needed a bypass then and never got one, the Cardiologist was impressed. He has great heart function and there was nothing in the ECHO that showed he had any damage from all those years ago. He is on a beta-blocker and Lipitor and low dose aspirin. I actually cried and could have just kissed that Cardiologist because he said his job is to put the CV surgeons out of business. I love this guy! But I still hadn't brushed my teeth and yeah what a mess we must have looked like. I was still in chore clothes and hadn't even showered yet. So off to surgery he went. I made the anesthesiologist promise me he'd be ok. The Ortho Surgeon said it would take only an hour to plate and screw everything and sure enough it was only an hour. The nurses were phenomenal and so were the Docs. I am a snot when it comes to health care as we all know why now don't we. They have and are taking great care of him. He is there overnight and it will be a long recovery, but he gets to come home tomorrow. I stayed as long as I could and once he got his pain medicine and the Valium I asked fore, fore him, he settled into sleep and I will be back there bright and early tomorrow. I had called Jeremiah and asked him to please come and feed the animals and take the dogs out for me and turn everything off and like the champ he is, he did. Thank God for Jeremiah. He always comes through for us when we need him most. A great friend indeed. I finally got home at 9:30pm to let the dogs out and refill the pellet burners and so on. Still trying to get a hold of his kids, but no one seems to pick up their phones, however it is early morning for them over there in England. Of course then my friend Kaylee payed me another visit and I let go this time. I used a word only reserved for certain people I truly believe deserve it. So to Kaylee I now say this. You claim I am sick for "bragging" about what I was trained for. Well, my dear, it's being proud of what you do and you don't come out of school knowing it all, ever. Health care is an art and a science. It takes years of experience to be good at it. And you are always learning because it is always changing. And I am good at it. And confident. That my darling, is what makes good Doctors and Nurses. And I am proud to be a part of it. And if you call that bragging , well, then maybe it is. The Doctors and Nurses I encountered tonight at this hospital my husband is in are confident and cocky and smart and experienced. They know what they are doing, the same that I do. And I for one am grateful to have them there. So I am done playing with you now. I have enough on my plate, I do not want you to visit this blog any longer unless it is to apologize for being an ass. And as for my last comment to you, I will apologize for using such language. Waukesha Memorial You people rock!

This Is Too Close For Comfort..............

This was in the news on Saturday, January 31st, 2009. This is just one county slightly north from us and last year's sighting in Rock County whose Cougar somehow ended up in Chicago to be killed by the police, one county west. Literally both counties just a few miles from us.

I've had my normal troubles with Coyotes and ours are big up here because they've mixed with feral dogs, but this is crazy. Apparently the Cougars are making a comeback, which I'm not against, after all, they used to populate this state before humans drove them out, just shocked. Not sure how I'd deal with this confrontation whilst out feeding my animals. Funny enough last year Stephen and I found a frozen cat track on our property near about the same time and questioned ourselves before all the news hit about the Cougar. After that we were certain of it. We both knew that the track we found was not that of a canine, but couldn't believe it.
I guess we'll have to be be on extra alert and quite diligent. It would break my heart to come out and find a dead horse or goat. The cougars are protected here. I'm hoping that the smell of our dogs all over the property will be enough to deter the feline and that perhaps the cat will find the pig farm across the street more palatable.

"WATERTOWN, Wis. -- Residents in Jefferson County are on high alert after a horse on a farm in rural Watertown was attacked and killed by some kind of wild animal.
Amanda Saxby found the horse on Monday. She said, "It was horrifying to come down and see her in the condition that she was in."
Saxby described the neck injury to her veterinarian who then told her to call the Department of Natural Resources.
Based on the horse's wounds and what she was told by wildlife experts, Saxby thought the wild animal that attacked the horse may be a cougar.
"By the pattern of the attack, being in her throat area and her head area, that's characteristics of a large cat compared to a wolf would prey on an animal or take down from behind," Saxby said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture took over the investigation, but experts don't know exactly what killed the horse because the family had already buried it.
Wildlife officials documented tracks in the snow and looked at another one of Saxby's injured horses.
Saxby said that horse suffered paw marks across her rear on both sides and teeth marks and puncture wounds on the inside of her leg.
The USDA said the tracks resemble that of a canine, possibly a wolf.
Saxby may never know what killed their horse, but she said they're taking extra precautions.
She said, "We have completely changed our feeding schedules. We're making sure everything is done during the daylight hours and that multiple people come down at one time."
Just last year, a cougar was spotted in Rock County and eventually shot to death by police in a Chicago neighborhood.
The USDA said, recently, there have been no legitimate sightings of cougars in southern Wisconsin."

NOTE To KAYLEE, Whoever You are!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, I'll start with the comment I just received on my last post and I posted it because I allow everyone to be heard on this blog even if I disagree. It's called being polite! So let me post it in quotes!

"If you had spent less on horses, dinning out, cars ect and saved for the last 18 years maybe this would have been do able.It is all ways someone elses fault right, not yours.Give me a break. !!!!The me generation , their chickens coming home to roost. "

Now, I must admit that I let loose on Miss Kaylee with a follow up comment. Feel free to read it. This really pissed me off.

#1- I don't recall putting fault or blame on anybody for the lack of qualifying for a low interest loan. Simply a shock and a hardy "fuck you" to people who actually get off their ass and work for a living.

#2- I am a Baby Boomer, not a "ME" generation. So let us get that straight.

#3- 40% of my retirement fund has now gone to the Wall Street big wigs pockets for their selfish indulgences along with a whole lot of other people's hard earned money. A retirement of which I have carefully contributed to and do still. Also of which I am allowed to borrow against for said child's college, however, there is nothing left to do so with. It's called TIA-CREF. It's mostly gone now and it only took a year. And that was NOT my fault.

#4- I worked my way through college and have always kept a roof over this child's head and food in her stomach. She has always come first and has never lacked for anything. Must have done something right there along the lines as she has turned out to be a pretty damned good human being. And will actually contribute to society rather than suck off of it. Now I understand the need for help for lots of folks who aren't able to or lucky enough or have been stuck in said situations. I do understand the need for some folks to call on government help. I understand that. I never had to, but I worked my ass off in order to not. How much do you contribute to charities, Kaylee? Stephen and I always manage to come up with something for those less fortunate.

#5- What Job, Kaylee, do you do to contribute to society? I'm curious, really. I'm a Pediatric Intensive Care Registered Nurse. Every night shift I go to work requires me to saves little children's lives. And if you think that is the Doctor's job, well, let's talk a little reality here. I am at the bedside, watching labs, knowing what they mean, watching vital signs, knowing what they mean and it's up to me to let that Doctor know that this particular kid is going to DIE, if we do not start to take action. How many fucking chest compressions have you done on a child to save it's life? Let's see, I've lost count. How many code carts have you cracked open and started pushing life saving drugs on kids before the Doc got to the bedside to bark orders? Let's see, in my 20 years of doing this, I've lost count. Stop at any car accidents recently and keep someone alive until the paramedics show up?, Kaylee? Hmmm, Again, I've lost count. Rescue any animals? Kaylee? Rescue or feed anything? OH and let me remind you and anyone else out there that if you think a pediatric nurse makes more money than an adult nurse? Well, the answer is no we don't. Children's hospitals everywhere bank on the fact that you won't leave to take of adults because you like to care for kids, so the pay is much less than you think.

So unless you know what the fuck I have done to contribute during my 46 yrs on this earth, you have got nothing to say about this and how DARE you even hint at my "Greed?" How dare you!
