This story was written by Deanna Hertrich, who was there and this is her eye witness account. I wanted to share it with all, because I thought it was both so tragic and very moving.Calliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704537697611988375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926013554523279624.post-13023373738815075332007-11-16T18:05:00.000-08:002007-11-16T18:05:00.000-08:00I almost didn't read this post because I was afrai...I almost didn't read this post because I was afraid of knowing more than I can stand.

I don't even understand the physics of the situation. How can you get 59 draft horses in a semi, even a double-decker one?

And the way you describe the horses -- so easy to work with (except the terrified mares). That defies everything I know about panicked horses -- or people.

Your description of everything being surreal must be absolutely accurate. And although it took a certain kind of people to put the horses in this situation, that was almost redeemed by the hordes of a certain kind of other people who got them out.

God did put you there. Thank you for sharing the story.

I hope the survivors find good homes, and that outrage over this incident leads to this never happening again.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926013554523279624.post-84076036561365443412007-11-11T16:58:00.001-08:002007-11-11T16:58:00.001-08:00Sorry, just copy and paste it to your browser and ...Sorry, just copy and paste it to your browser and it should bring to the follow-up article.Calliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704537697611988375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926013554523279624.post-72737631408228531272007-11-11T16:58:00.000-08:002007-11-11T16:58:00.000-08:00Here's the link. http://www.thehorse.com//ViewArti...Here's the link. http://www.thehorse.com//ViewArticle.aspx?ID=10789&eID=51364Calliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704537697611988375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926013554523279624.post-684161903128752272007-11-11T16:55:00.000-08:002007-11-11T16:55:00.000-08:00Jolynna, I personally did not rescue these horses,...Jolynna, I personally did not rescue these horses, however this did happen in my neck of the woods. I do know one of the vets and according to an article in TheHorse.com , they remaining horses are nearly ready for adoption. He said that he knew one of the vets that were there and all these horses were proper paper work in the end and at the time him and I argued about the fate of these creatures even before the crash and then I received this article and thought there is no defending that owner, No, 59 horses newly branded and stuffed into a double decker, bullshit, mixed breeds?, BS, be responsible. Jeremiah said that they were headed to a particular draft horse auction in Minnesota. Reading that made me sick to my stomach. I'm sorry auction or not, eventually they were headed to slaughter in Canada. If they're going to auction, you want people to buy them, sounds like they had already been sold.Calliehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05704537697611988375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8926013554523279624.post-11161993449855129332007-11-05T03:39:00.000-08:002007-11-05T03:39:00.000-08:00I cried thru this whole article. The writer is correct about the people responsible just disappearing. How many incidents like this will it take to tighten up the laws and enforce the ones they do have?Twisted Oaks Quarter Horseshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06331790080181818434noreply@blogger.com
