How Is This Right?

This was forwarded to me from my horse club. This is precisely what I bitch about and we scratch our heads and wonder what's up with the horse industry........This is just plain wrong.......
I've eliminated the phone number as I do not want to be resposible for causing grief to these old folks as clearly this is a serious situation. It just pisses me off! I highly doubt they were bred for conformation. They were bred because there were four stallions left with the mares, clearly these horses have not been cared for! At 35 bucks a head a kill buyer could make a profit!

"Dear Katie, I have a nieghbor who has fourty two horses how need homes. They are old and have medical problems and finacial and want the horses to go to good homes. Her name is XXX and she ask that you pay 35.oo for a coggins test and you can have the horses. Many are Arab of of good blood lines, and some are Arab Quarter. This is a sad situation as the horse have no food and the breeding has become out of hand. If you think you can post this fine. She lives In
Wisonsin and her phone is *** *** ****. She will acept calls from eight in the morning until eight at night. She is seventy years old and so please adhere to these Wisconsin time times. This is really an emergency case of getting these horse out of a bad situation. If anyone else can help post or know of anyone who wants home's for these beautiful horses please pass the number along.
These are not broke horses, however they were breed for conformation and temperment. Very easy horses to work with and just way too many. There are four stallions as well. You can see the situtaion. These horses need homes.__._,_.___ "

Please contact the humane society or the people in Mchenry to help this women. They will find suitable people to adopt and they will get medical attention.

That is such a horrible situation. And it sounds like it has seriously gotten out of hand. I'm surprised that the Humane Society hasn't already been contacted? Perhaps there weren't any complaints? Though, with 42 horses, I don't see how that is possible.

Situations like this really make me sad. :(

This has come through to the horse club from Crosswinds Equine Rescue. I'm not sure of the details, but I will check about the humane society. May have already been done.

Hope people line up to help this dreadful situation.

How many others are there that we don't know about. I constantly worry.

Thanks for putting this on your blog!

I got an email today that made me wince too. Its a mare we used to trim, apparently in a bad bad way. I have called the owner and left a message, offering to help her out if we could.. now all I can do is cross my fingers and keep trying to get in touch with her...

Keep us posted Callie on how this turns out for those guys....

It must be the time of year. There have been several rescues in our area recently as well. So sad.

I wonder if this lady with all these horses had any friends and if so, why didn't they try to talk her out of breeding so many horses before it got out of hand and became animal abuse.

We as horse lovers need to take notice of the other horses around us that are not our own horses and speak up when we see that they not cared as they should be. Do it for the horses.

So many times we see causes of animal abuse where no one has called for help until the animals are skin and bones and near death. Keep your eyes open and take action faster. Don't leave it to someone else to do, because they may not.

And if you have an animal control like the one in my area then you have to repeatedly report the case until they take action or go above them.

Take good notes with dates and photos and video too if you can. The better records you keep on an animal abuse case the more luck you will have of getting help for it. If not from the local government then at least from the local or national media or post a video on youtube and ask for help.

Thanks Jonipony, for the advice on both this post and bad attitudes. I always keep the attitude that I may learn something from other's experience and knowledge. I appreciate the sharing as it makes me a better horse person. And thanks for visiting! :)

With the horse slaughter ban we have and the one they are trying to pass, I think we will see more and more of this, only it is going to get worse!
