I Rode Today

First, let me start by I know I'm a big girl, but the wind was blowing my shirt open, so it's not flattering to look at. Geeze, I need to drop fifty pounds! Anyway, every time Steve tried to take a pic, Kola investigated the camera. I first tried my hand at bareback. Oh, that was bad. The MS, I now have has really played havoc on my balance. It was hard. You can't see the concentration on my face, but it was there. Thank God for forgiving Misty mare! Then I threw the saddle on and things were much better! My goal is to ride at least once a week. Monday, I'll do it again and ride Kola as well, to Misty's relief! I'm bound and determined to put more time in the saddle and work with these girls and just enjoy!

You look fine on the horse. I need to lose quit a few pounds myself, but with the bad knees, exercising is torture. Anyway it's good you got to ride, enjoy yourself.

Who Hoo! Riding time is the best! Keep trying to ride bareback, it is great to help with your balance! I try to ride bareback a couple times a week. I love my quailty time with my horses, it is the best therapy! Hubby got up this morning and I was out treating Angel and he called me and said I looked so relaxed and told me to have fun with my therapy!! LOL! Keep it up!

Thanks, Arlene, it's that middle aged spread....LOL

I will try, KDW, I used to be pretty good at it even 3 years ago, surprised myself back then when I tried and was able to, but now it was downright difficult. If there is one horse to keep trying on, it is Misty, most forgiving creature on this earth!

My balance is long gone since I took the header off Lil'Bud. I had been riding bareback just the week before (cantering) but now I wouldn't dare. Maybe I'll try on Kipper, my feet should just about touch the ground! ha! They are coming home tomorrow! Yippee!

Midlife Mom, I hear ya, it was much harder than I thought it would be.

My balance is shot too and I feel so insecure I'd much rather ride in the saddle.

I'm glad you got the time to ride and hope you keep it up.

Mikael, The balance thing sucks doesn't it. I could immediately tell the difference whem I got in the saddle.

Pony Girl, Thanks. I think they have pretty faces too! They definately look like girls!

Thanks Andrea, I plan on keeping to my goal of riding weekly. It's as good for them as it is for me!

Way to go Callie! I rode this week as well and it was fantabulous!

Callie, don't worry about how you look; it's how you feel when you're on a horse that is important. (And it feels great, doesn't it?)Your Misty has a very kind face. There is a book called Centered Riding, by Sally Swift, that may help you with your balance. It uses a lot of mental imagery. I took a clinic on centered riding years ago, and it really helped.

I finally got some time to ride yesterday and it was heavenly! Of course, I can't seem to manage starting myself off easy. I did a trial on a horse for a friend -- one I'd never ridden before who has a big trot and needs lots of support. It was a great ride, but I'm feeling it today!

I'm hoping to get back to riding at least once a week, but preferably twice. Let's hold each other to that!

Don't feel bad. I used to run around on horseback, bareback, like a wild indian. The other day when Megan and I went for our ice cream run-I felt awkward too.
Have fun-keep at it and I am sure it will start coming back to you. I know I am going to start doing the bareback thing a little more.

Yay Callie! Congratulations... You're doing better than me! *blush*

I'm hoping to talk my mom in to baby sitting while I take a weekly ride on Sunnie. Sounds like we have about the same goal. ;)

Callie - You're not alone with the balance thing - I think that as I get older, my gravity shifts downward. I've been told that Tai Chi helps. Maybe I can incorporate it into my exercise routine in between lifting muck buckets. You look very good on that horse - as they say, just keep a leg on each side.

Ok, First , I'm sorry for taking a long time to get to comments as we're in Columbia, MO to pick childbrat up from University.

Kathy C., It was great here too and I want to stick to my goal of at least once a week.

Shirley, I may just pick up that book, unfortunately, the MS thing is permanent damage, so I don't know if I can correct it, but will keep on trying. Thanks!

Jackie, I was only on for a short time and boy I feel it as well, the inside of my thighs....Ooh Hah! feel the burn!!!

BECs, I'll keep trying. At least with Misty, it's not far down to the ground, LOL, thanks for the encouragement!

Joan, You stick with your goal and I'll stick with mine and we can encourage each other!

Victoria, You crack me up! That's a funny saying and I can't say that I've heard that before. My hubs and I just giggled reading that!

Well done on the bareback riding! I do it quite a bit, but I cheat and have a nice fleece bareback pad (with no stirrups). It really does help, gives you a little more security, but you still have the feeling of being bareback... just not as slippery!!

Please stop by my blog and pick up your award!

Callie said...

Thanks, Jessie, I might have to try something like that. It's also seasier if it's drizzling out a bit, I noticed. Wet butts and backs stick together nicely!...LOL

LOL!! I know all about "trying" to take decent picture! Let me first tell you I am 5'7 which is pretty tall for a girl. However, my "cowboy" is right at 6 ft! So it doesn't matter how I stand I look short and frumpy in almost EVERY photo! and that wind picks up at the most in-opertune times!!
I have read lately that riding horses is shown to help people lose weight? I think I'll have to start paying attention! Now I have to go back and read more of your posts!! Like it so far!!

I forget that you have MS! You complain so often (never)! You are tuely an inspiration: from your physical strength to your good natured attitude day in and day out! You rock.

Thanks,ELL, I tried to blog MS and quit it because I found it much too depressing, I'd rather be here. :)
