Spring Lilacs

This is for you, Victoria. Here are the old Lilac bushes that are in desperate need of trimming back as they are starting to get top heavy. They are just starting to bloom and smell magnificent. I wish they would stay in bloom all summer!

I miss my lilac bushes. They were diseased and had to be removed. But this time of year I really miss them.

Yours look great. I can almost smell them.

I too love lilacs. I have several bushes so have a constant supply for bouquets all season. They just smell sooooooo good! Well there is one kind that STINKS to high heaven! My FIL next door has some exotic kind and I brought some in and they were so stinky I had to throw them out. :o( So the goats got out eh? And poor kitty. One of my cats stayed out all night one a couple nights ago and I was up till very late trying to find him. Finally gave up and went to bed and he was on the back deck in the morning. He was fine but I do worry about the coyotes and other wild animals. He could go in the barn but doesn't very often, I even have an old afagan in the hayloft for them. My Mom says I am a slave to my animals! ha! Yeah it's kind of weird knowing I have a brain tumor but I do keep check of it.

(2nd atempt to get through!!)
I can just hear the refrain; (Altogether now) "We'll gather lilacs in the spring, again,....."
Nice one, gang!

Oh Callie - Those are wonderful! I can smell them - wait, that's the vase of lilacs I have next to the computer. You're so lucky to have so many bushes! Thanks for showing them off.

Midlife Mom, I have to worry about coyotes too. Glad you keep it in check.

Lilacs are one of my favorites, I just love the smell. We have a few bushes but I haven't snipped any yet, I will though. Here's a little fact about lilacs you may or may not know. In colonial times people always planted lilac bushes at the back borders of their property to keep out the evil spirits. That's my brain donation for the day.

Arlene, I did not know that. Cool! Well I keep a broomstick over my door and a gator head in the front yard hanging from a tree, so between the lilacs and the rest, out to be pretty good. Also smudged house with sage before I moved in so many years ago. hehehe

So pretty!!!I had lilac bushes outside the window of my childhood home. It was my favorite smell in the whole wide world! I always end up killing anything I plant... I dont exactly have a green thumb;( Maybe lilac bushes would be a good start. I would love to be greeted by that smell again each day as I walk outside.

Oh this makes me miss our lilacs... They got frosted this spring and I really miss their scent. Go give them a whiff for me! :D

Kelly, I remember them as a kid too. My Mom had white ones, traditional light purple and the really deep purple ones. Used to love picking them.

Joan,I'm so sorry they got frosted. That stinks! I just picked a bunch and put them throughout the house and it made the house smell so good. That was one of the selling points when I bought this place 14 years ago!
