Well, This Has Been One Hell Of A Day...........

Just for starters, Stephen managed to break his ankle in three places by slipping on the ice whilst picking up the mail. Of course, I was indoors and cleaning the house, so I didn't hear him yelling for help. The dogs were barking and I figured he was down in the garage futzing around with the stack of wood pellets. He managed to drag himself to the downstairs door and yell loud enough. At first, I couldn't quite connect the noise I was hearing and then I realized he was screaming "Help". I ran downstairs and Holy Shit! What an ankle! Or perhaps an "angle" because his foot was not facing the correct direction! He was pissed at me for not hearing him sooner and in his Steve way insisted I make him some coffee before racing to the ER. The car was still running and sitting at the end of the driveway. Reluctantly, I gave him his coffee, even though I knew this meant surgery. Retrieved the car and parked it as close as I could to where he was downstairs. Practically carried him to the car and off we went. It's a 35 minute drive, I got us there in 20 without a ticket. He had not only broken it, but dislocated it as well. So with some awesome drugs and an IV, Mr.Pearson went to babbling while the ER Doc reduced the dislocation and fracture. The Ortho Surgeon was called and then Cardiology to see him in order to clear him for immediate surgery. The good news is that even with his heart history and the fact that he had an MI at aged 35yrs and was told he needed a bypass then and never got one, the Cardiologist was impressed. He has great heart function and there was nothing in the ECHO that showed he had any damage from all those years ago. He is on a beta-blocker and Lipitor and low dose aspirin. I actually cried and could have just kissed that Cardiologist because he said his job is to put the CV surgeons out of business. I love this guy! But I still hadn't brushed my teeth and yeah what a mess we must have looked like. I was still in chore clothes and hadn't even showered yet. So off to surgery he went. I made the anesthesiologist promise me he'd be ok. The Ortho Surgeon said it would take only an hour to plate and screw everything and sure enough it was only an hour. The nurses were phenomenal and so were the Docs. I am a snot when it comes to health care as we all know why now don't we. They have and are taking great care of him. He is there overnight and it will be a long recovery, but he gets to come home tomorrow. I stayed as long as I could and once he got his pain medicine and the Valium I asked fore, fore him, he settled into sleep and I will be back there bright and early tomorrow. I had called Jeremiah and asked him to please come and feed the animals and take the dogs out for me and turn everything off and like the champ he is, he did. Thank God for Jeremiah. He always comes through for us when we need him most. A great friend indeed. I finally got home at 9:30pm to let the dogs out and refill the pellet burners and so on. Still trying to get a hold of his kids, but no one seems to pick up their phones, however it is early morning for them over there in England. Of course then my friend Kaylee payed me another visit and I let go this time. I used a word only reserved for certain people I truly believe deserve it. So to Kaylee I now say this. You claim I am sick for "bragging" about what I was trained for. Well, my dear, it's being proud of what you do and you don't come out of school knowing it all, ever. Health care is an art and a science. It takes years of experience to be good at it. And you are always learning because it is always changing. And I am good at it. And confident. That my darling, is what makes good Doctors and Nurses. And I am proud to be a part of it. And if you call that bragging , well, then maybe it is. The Doctors and Nurses I encountered tonight at this hospital my husband is in are confident and cocky and smart and experienced. They know what they are doing, the same that I do. And I for one am grateful to have them there. So I am done playing with you now. I have enough on my plate, I do not want you to visit this blog any longer unless it is to apologize for being an ass. And as for my last comment to you, I will apologize for using such language. Waukesha Memorial You people rock!

OH NO!!!! Ice and horses...both can be very dangerous.

I'm so sorry Callie. That just stinks. Poor Steve!
Tell him, he's welcome to come convalesce here with me, if he'd like. I'll be in my tower for several more months and together we can cheer each other on when we finally both take our first steps on our own again.

Of course, I'm sure the food is much better at your place.
Hmmmm...can I come there instead?

Give Steve a hug from me, ok?

And a hug for you, too my friend :)

((((HUGS))))

Stephen, you crazy Brit, didn't you know one is supposed to GLIDE over the ice, Hmmm? ;)

Get him better quick Callie, and let him know that we will be praying for him in this corner. WICKED glad to hear the ECHO results there! WAY TO GO!!

As to Mizz Thang there.... wanna bet that she is a bunny humping, tree hugging, tye dye wearing, no shaving, no bathing, root eating, sun god worshiping, sandal wearing frootbat?

Mizz Thang sure gives the impression of a lack of education, pride in a job well done, and well.... one word comes to mind.

TROLL.

Yep- the under the bridge type. With all of the above mentioned "attributes".

Have no fear Cal, the Troll will run away soon, as it will be bored with baiting those who do not wish to play back.

Man, you'd think that there would be better things to do in this world than spread MORE pissant attitudes huh?

We love you and Steve Cal! Keep us posted when you can!!!

Geez, that sounds awful. Tell Steve we're all thinking of him and hope he heals soon. It must have been pretty painful, glad they fixed him up and he's not in too much pain anymore. Don't wear yourself out at home, see if you can get some help and watch that ice in the driveway.
I'm hoping he can come home soon.

I can't believe Kaylee is still bothering you, you're right to just ignore her, she could keep this going on for as long as she keeps getting an answer to fuel her fire. She's not worth the aggravation, you've got enough on your plate right now without having this jerk to contend with.

Lisa said to stop by and wish you well, so ... "well!" Hope Steve is feeling better and hope the troll finds someone else to harass.

My family would starve or live on McDonald's if I broke something and couldn't cook.

I hope he is up and feeling better as soon as possible. One of my biggest fears is being hurt and no one being able to hear my cries for help.

I have a friend that I can count on anytime I need the help and she is a God send.

Thanks All, for the support. I've finished morning chores and have had my bath and will pack up some clothes and head over to the hospital to get soon. He is in a lot of pain, but if he wants to come home, he'll have to buck up a bit or they won't let him go.

Poor guy. Sorry this had to be in the cards for both of you. Someone we know just broke his tibia slipping on ice. Nasty stuff. I hope Stephen gets a good dose of drugs to push off the pain for the next few weeks.

I get the feeling that your little miss is just a little miss. Merely a child in mind, if not body. Don't pay no heed to those who still have a lot of growing to do and take their frustrations out on you.

I have something for you and Stephen at my blog.

Oh man, that sucks! Poor Steve...

Here's hoping he gets to come home soon and that they give him some good meds!

Glad the hospital experience was good. Also, great news from the cardiologist...

Yow... what a day you had. Hope Steve's up and around soon - and feeling good enough to be giving you h@ll fetching & carrying, 'cause that's what men do when they're invalided ;) Just don't give him a bell! *grin*

I come here via Lisa's blog - I hope that Steve gets better soon (although i had to smile a bit about the coffee thing). And as for your troll: if you're proud of what you do and talk about it, then that's a good thing. But you have to have something that you do well and maybe she's missing that...

Poor Steve! For once the dogs were barking for a legitimate reason. If you need help getting him up the stairs just call me. I suppose Jeremiah will be close by. Ignore the troll. She is probably one of the 20 something generation that won't work and expects her parents to support her because she didn't ask to be born. She won't find a man because she is high maintenance. They commonly sponge off friends until they get drained.

Your posts about the school loan were just maddening! It's so freak'n backwards. You're right about there is no help for the middle.

Hey Callie, Lisa at Laughing Orca Ranch sent me over to say hello and give you a hug. I'm sorry to hear about Steve's mishap. Youch!

Re: the nasty commenter...I had some weird stuff happening on my site as well, for a while. Just ignore the comments, don't respond to them, post them, or give them any airtime, and like any schoolyard bully, the perpetrator will eventually leave if he/she isn't getting the kind of reaction he/she wants. A fight is no fun if no one pushes back.

Hang in there!

Oh Geez! Callie and Steve, what a day!!! A break with a dislocation can be a pain to deal with since both require different things for treatment. I know that one from personal experience. What a mess! That ice is a killer this time of year.

But great news about his heart. That had to be a great relief even in such difficult times.

You will both be in our thoughts and prayers. Wishing for a speedy recovery.........and maybe a good set of ear plugs for you Callie. If Steve is anything like Dave when he is down you're going to need them. (sorry for making light, I'm an expert in dark humor over such things and I just couldn't resist.)
