In Memory Of My Zeke

Today as I approached my driveway coming home from work, I found my favorite, Mama's kitty dead on the road in front of our neighbor's driveway. I never knew he crossed the road, the dumbass! I stopped and picked him up and put him on my car and drove into the driveway. I know this was my Zeke as he had a chipped front tooth and an unmistakable forked tongue from a run in with a pony. I called Steve down from my cell phone and he brought down a box. His body was still warm against the pavement when I picked him up. I will bury him later. Now, I'll crawl into bed and ball myself to sleep. Zeke was my kitty only and talked to me, we would pander meows back and forth and he would mimic my meows and he accepted only cuddles from me. I will miss my Zekie forever. I feel like I let him down, somehow. Of all of our cats, only two really like to go outside and even though there is a fence, they obviously still get through it. I miss my kitty! Rest in peace, my special kitty. Mama loves you and I hope you are in God's hands, being cuddled and pandered too.
My other black kitty, Pywackette is nearly 20 yrs old and is fading fast, refusing to eat, purring all of time. I know she will be next. This sucks!

I am crying with you. After I lost my sweet Dusty on the road, I have absolutely sworn never to let my cats out again. I don't know why they have to cross the road, but there is always some adventure on the other side. (Someone suggested a cat's territory is 360 degrees around the house.)

I am so, so sorry for you and wish I could do something to help. The best thing I have found is for you to heal your heart by going to a shelter to find a new kitty to adopt in Zeke's name. Although he can never, ever be replaced, giving a homeless pet a loving home is a gift in his honor and a tribute to his love. Doing it FOR him will make it a little easier for you.

I hope you feel better soon, although I know you'll miss him forever.

poor baby. i do believe that he is in good hands now too. we have Kiki - he is the same size as our pug and on the same down hill run. Good luck and you will be in my prayers.

Zeke looks like my old BooBoo kity that I lost last March at age 17. Your relationship with Zeke sounds like the one I had with him. As my son says, he was the best cat EV-ER.

I'm sorry for your loss, doubly so, knowing you will have to deal with again soon enough.

Sorry to hear about Zeke. I worry about my barn cats wandering as they hunt as well. He sounds like he was a lovely cat and will be sorely missed by you guys.

I'm so sorry, Callie! My thoughts are with you and Zeke.

As for Pywackette -- she has lived a good long life and it sounds like she is ready to go, just getting her loves in before she does. Let me know if you need tips on force feeding her so that she at least can be comfortable (and not starving) when she goes. I've force fed two cats during their illnesses and I can give you some pointers if you'd like.

I'm so sorry for your loss, Callie. Losing a pet is truly the hardest thing. It is especially hard when a pet is lost unexpectedly, there is no time to prepare emotionally. Let yourself grieve for your Zeke. Sending prayers and warm thoughts your way!

Awwww, so sorry for your forked tongue, chipped tooth, beautiful and unique ebony colored feline.

May he rest and peace until he crosses over the Rainbow Bridge to chase many a terrified mouse. :)

Callie - I'm late with my condolences - haven't had time to visit my blog buddies this week - It's so hard when you suddenly lose someone you love. I think that black cats are very special. My very old black kitty is having a hard time getting around these days. I'm sure that Zeke is up there in Heaven, purring down at you. I'm so sorry.
