Thursdays Happenings...............

Is this really necessary? How does thing work?

Please, I beg of you..............Please? Take it off..........I mean the grass isn't even long enough!

Oh, thank-you, Mommy............ I don't know what I did wrong...........

And what are they doing out here?

Anyway, the Vet was out here and YES, Kola is a bit on the fat side. I tried the grazing muzzle and in the end, just didn't have the heart to continue with it. I mean the grass in the pasture really is short and there is just no point in torturing her. So, instead, I've cut grain down by extreme measures and hay also by extreme measures and will let them have the pasture during the day. I also bought some Dumor Hoof supplement to help her with the heel crack. She does look pitiful in those pics, doesn't she............. On another note, Jackson finally was slow enough to get a decent "ZAP" from the fence. Oh, it was hilarious. He was half way under and just dipped his little mouth into the rain water in one of the girls feed bowls. I stood and watched and warned him and then "Zap" and "YAP!" . Perfect.........He came scootin' out of there ASAP and turned to bitch out the fence. Hilarious!

Kola would say she is just big boned:-) I wouldn't have the heart to leave on that grazing muzzle either...what a face:-)

She does look pitiful, but when the grass is higher the muzzle will be better. We use them on all of our horses, the little pigs. We've got a different kind that just sort of fits over the mouth and isn't as big as our last ones that were the same as yours.

Oh, I feel so sad for them in muzzles. I had one on Toby when he was boarded out to protect the fences from his cribbing. Now that he's home, the fences are chewed up in places but he has no muzzle.

What's a fence rail compared to his happiness?

Now, the question is, has Jackson actually learned the lesson? This will be a good test. Sad, but funny too.

Oh! She does look pathetic! I'm very tempted to try Sunny in one of those, as he's already a bit pudgy around the edges and they're not out on grass yet.

Really had to laugh at the "Zap-Yap" - the farm owner's little dachshund is VERY leery of the fence, as I think she's bounced off a time or two.

Poor Kola! Everytime I see horses with these on I feel sorry for them! I always think that they are so uncomfortable! But I know some horse need them!

I need to get those to give my grass a chance.

Actually, I need one of those for me!

I've never used one of those. I imagine they work well, I wonder how my horse would feel with one on? I'm sure I'd get some funny expressions! ;)

Siete feels Kola's pain - I'm sending away to England for a GreenGuard. If they've got to wear a muzzle, at least let it be one that fits a bit more comfortably. Right now, I'm just really limiting the time she's able to spend in the pasture - not that the grass out there is worth eating anyway! Maybe our girls could start a WeightWatchers for horses.

My little tubby Kipper should have one of those muzzles but I just don't have the heart to put one on him so I am going your route and cutting down on the hay and no grain in the morning. He only gets a handful anyway. My vet says he needs a ten year old kid to ride the daylights out of him and he would lose some weight. Guess I will be doing a lot of lunging this summer.
