Flash Update..............

Remember that little colt who managed to shave off half his hoof last year? Well, here's the update. With the piece that he shaved off last year sitting next to the foot he did it too. Looks pretty good. You have to look real close to see anything of a sign that it had happened. So the answer to "Will it grow back?" is yes with proper care. Flash is now a yearling and doing well!

Oh, wow! Way cool! Nothing like a positive update about a severe injury like that. Glad the little fellow is doing well and learning how to be a rambuncious yearling. *G*

Thanks for posting, I have often wondered how that turned out. It never ceases to amaze me what can heal up, often without scarring or damage with proper care. Problem is most people just don't give things enough time, nor stick with doctoring long enough.

I'm so glad Flash is going to be fine. It really sounded like he was special to you.

Glad he's doing well! Morbid about keeping the piece of his hoof! LOL.

Cu-ute babies :) Glad to hear your vaccinations were relatively uneventful. It's always nice to get them out of the way for the year.

Kudos on the hoof grow-back. My husband's four year old did something similar as a filly. She didn't take the chunk clear off, though, just ripped in up into flesh. She wore a shoe for support for about 6 months, and you can't tell at all that she did anything today. It's amazing how things will heal.

Flash has turned out to be a really good colt. We bonded during his time in the stall healing. B.E.C is right about sticking with the doctoring. One farrier said it wouldn't grow back and he would probably end up with a special shoe. I didn't give up on him. It was everyday, sometimes twice a day for over 2 months. I had another farrier look at him last week and he said it was not going to be a problem at all. Except for it being a little shorter yet, no one would ever know. Callie really did not want to touch the piece of hoof. I keep it as a reminder of what could have been, had I given up on him. I now see it as a sign of hope. I was so devasted when it happened.
