Yummy!

Misty and Kola enjoyed their yellow meat watermelon treat this evening. I had read somewhere that horses like watermelon and in small amounts it's ok for them to eat. I had bought a yellow meat watermelon a couple of days ago not realizing what it was. I can't get past the yellow. So I decided to let the horses and goats give it a try. Horses love it. Goats don't. However, the goats do love the peppermint and butterscotch horse treats.

The only treats I've ever given Miss are those hard little "cookies" made with oats and molasses, etc. I'm sure they make a big mess eating watermelon!

Wow, I didn't realize there was anything a goat wouldn't eat!

I wouldn't be able to get past the yellow either.

My horses love watermelon rind. They get pieces of the rind whenever we serve watermelon in the guesthouse here. Once I read a piece by a trainer who used watermelon rind to entice timid horses to come to her. She'd sit by the paddock fence and put some rind down next to her, and soon enough the horse would come over.

My horse only liked healthy snacks, like carrots and apples. I had friends in 4-H whose horses ate potato chips, and one kid's horse would take a bottle of coca-cola in his teeth, tip it up, and drink it all down. Certainly not healthy, but it was something to see!
