Here's Ronnie

This is my $10 dollar baby. She was a late June baby and is much smaller then my other weanlings. The swelling has actually gone down a little bit. The actual puncture was up by the red where it meets the white. She has developed a lump where it may finally drain. She has been really good considering she was taken from her Mom, ran on a trailer and taken to a sale with strangers all around. She hadn't even been haltered yet. That is pretty typical around here. She was very quick to learn to lead and is really getting friendly. She is pretty tough, she put my biggest alpha colt in line. After she was done with him he was trying to make friends with her. I just love her.

Cute as hell and personality to boot! Worried about that foot, though.

Thanks! It has gone down since yesterday. She hasn't limped on it, she walks fine. It will just take time for her blood system to filter it out. We stopped the penicillin, they get stomach aches if you keep them on it to long. We might get some SMZ's now that she is starting to eat grain. She never had grain before.

Ya, that foot doesn't look good. But glad to hear it's getting better.

Doesn't surprise me she's pushing the colts around, that's what those fillies were born to do. I just love their little attitudes!

Cute little girl. Interesting that the swelling is not where the puncture is. Are you gonna have a vet out to take a look? Wondering if a sweat or pultice will help with that swelling??

I think Jess said that the swelling is going down, I know she's been on some pennicillin and bute.

Puncture wounds are a pain to treat. This one was probably there for awhile. If it had been soft I would have had the vet come out and lance it towards the bottom. Gravity pulls the fluid down and it is an old injury. I had a bruise on the knee that ended up on my ankle, all the blood pooled down there. I just have to treat it from the inside. She is going on SMZ's today for a week or two. She has responded well to antibiotics. She is not nearly as swollen as when she came. She isn't lame on it and her appetite improves daily. She was in need of wormer, she was pretty thin. She had a great personality and my colt just loves her. I try to turn them out every other day. The last time she ran and bucked with them, so I'm pretty confident she will make a full recovery.
