Ten Dollars

Well, I think I did it now. My wonderful boyfriend bought me a cute little filly with a puffy ankle for me to give a little t.l.c. to. It has come on gradually, my big tuff cowboy is showing more and more of his softer side. Of course I had to stay up until after ten o'clock so that I could see her. She will be my all around horse. I haven't seen her papers yet, she needs to be registered and transferred (that's $40). I'm not going to breed her, I'm only breeding 2 out of my 4 mares next year. I stay out of the Sale Barns for that very reason. People are paying to give their horses away. She sold for ten dollars and it cost the seller the minimum 25 dollar fee to sell her. So it cost fifteen dollars plus gas to give her away. What will it be like this winter?

I will try to get a picture this week. We haltered her yesterday for the first time and led her around a little bit. She catches on fast and seems to be really smart. She did not know what grain was and is finally starting to eat it. Her swollen ankle is the result of a puncture wound. I have her on bute and penicillin. If I can get help tonight I will soak it to try and draw it out. It has been there awhile so I think it might come out the bottom of her hoof like an absess. I can get attached to this one, she isn't going to be one of my higher bred high dollar babies. She isn't a slouch by no means, just not the blood lines that I normally raise. I have to check and see, she may go back to a stallion of my youth, I would be so excited if she is.

I forgot, her name is Ronnie.

Well, I'm glad that you have her, but $10 that is so scary for the market to be like that.

I fear the economy is in for a big collapse in the next 3 years---scary what kind of impact it is going to have on horses since they are deemed a "luxury" item. I hope you got a diamond in the rough. My second pony was $5--I got you beat on price point:-)
