Introvert or Extrovert?

These poor girls are as tired of winter as I am. I went out to take pics of feet to send to my new friend, S, for an opinion. Kola is most cooperative. So easy, just picks up her feet like she is supposed to, never an issue. My stubborn redhead, Misty is quite a different story. Not so easy, but not dangerous, just stubborn. This leads to me to an interesting article I just read in Horse Illustrated about introverts and extroverts related to horse personalities. After reading this, I decided my call on their personalities was pretty darn close. Kola is a Right Brain Extrovert needing, "Get me calm, help me feel safe, focus me, Then I'll do whatever you want." Misty is a Left Brain Introvert, "Alright, give me a reason to do this. What's in it for me? Please tell me it's food!" These I quoted from the Pat Parelli, Secrets for Success article I read. I found it to be spot on and quite interesting.

I'm listing the four different horsenalities as described in the article. You decide which one is your horse or horses, kind of fun.

Right Brain Extrovert: Always in motion and is often described as"crazy". You want him to be calmer. His primary need is safety.

Right Brain Introvert: Withdraws under pressure and is often described as "unpredictable". You want him to be more trusting. His primary need is comfort.

Left Brain Extrovert: Playful, energetic and is often described as "naughty". You want him to be more obedient. His primary need is play.

Left Brain Introvert: Has a "you can't make me do it" attitude and is often described as "stubborn". You want him to be more motivated. His primary need is incentive.

Jet is easy; left brain extrovert. Can't keep her lips off anything.

Firecracker? Not a clue. Maybe right brain introvert, but I'm not sure.

Summer...what's that? Seems I heard tell of something like that from my grandmother's stories...

True, BG, I think they run together in some ways.

Tracey, LOL on the summer thing....We're due for another snow storm on wednesday here...boo hiss!

The last two are Legs and Rhythm respectively. I'm not sure where Reflection fits. I'm pretty sure I have several of each on that list however. LOL

Bombay and Gabbrielle are LBEs, while Lostine is an LBI. Great descriptions!

Well lucky me, I have a horse that fits each of these personalities and some characteristics overlap.
We got a big snow yesterday and more this morning. Spring really is just around the corner, if we keep saying it maybe it will come sooner.

hmm we are slowly moving into Autumn... sigh. I'm not sure what Red is, possibly a right brain introvert.

I think I have one of each. But I'm not sure on any given day which one I'll be getting on...

So ready for summer! More rain on the way!

Royal? Not sure, he's just real cool about everything, curious, not pushy. Whatever, he's a keeper.

Now, I'm going back to see where I fit!

I have a right brain extrovert and she lights up most of the subcategories in the "extreme" blocks. We are working on it. Nice to focus on what she is, helps with training strategies. Some days...what a would give for a nice left brain introvert!

Yeah, Kola, the extrovert, doesn't fall under any extreme, but I do know that she definately does better with reasurance and the feeling of safety. Spooks easily. And is definately the introvert and stubborn to the core, but will get the job done. Funny really, when you think about it.

What's an introvert?!?. I can't remember ever owning one. I'm always having to think about what will they get into next. I have bolt snaps on my chains because they know how to undo the chains. I have two that can open the bolt snaps if they can get to them. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have one that is "just a horse", then I realize that would be boring. I do have a couple stubborn ones. You go to catch them and they have to walk away from you about 20 ft just to prove they can.

I just watched the horsenality video last night. I was always a little stumped by how it worked and thought (gee, Precious fits into LOTS of those categories), but after watching Linda Parelli explain how to really use chart to describe your horse I thought-NOW I GET IT. It makes total sense and I am looking forward to using that understanding now when I play with my horses.

I believe Dudley is a right brain, left brain introvert extrovert...
