Better Today

I think Kola is better today. I noticed two big poops out in the paddock this noon when I went out to finally allow her to share one flake of hay with Misty. Now they are both bored and this warm afternoon finds them napping.......standing up. I need to replace their salt block and mineral block to encourage Kola to drink more water. I think this was due to her being a bit dry. Even though I see her drink, I think she needs to drink more.

Glad your mare is better; I have lost 3 horses to colic over the years so I know how lucky you are to have caught it right away.

That's good news. I was worried for you. This morning I went into Bombay's stall and saw that he dug a couple of holes to China during the night, which means he was pawing. He's been fine today, but I'll bet he was having some pain last night. I guess spring is the season for colic, though I certainly haven't changed anything in the horses' diet. I haven't let them out to pasture yet. The baby blades are still growing and we haven't mowed it yet.

Thanks Everyone, She's a bit pissed because I'm gradually bringing her back up to her normal diet, but she'll get over it.

Glad to hear she is doing better. I have been out of bloggerville for a couple of days. I missed alot going on here! My mare had a severe vaccine reaction and I am having a time with her. (I posted about it today) And I am trying to check in with everyone. That bra sounds great! And the fair sounded great!

Oh the dreaded colic! I hate those words! Years ago I lost a 17 year old mare that I had raised from a baby to colic. She ended up with a twisted gut and there just wasn't anything they could do for her after trying everything they could think of. Do you keep banemine on hand? I use that and it seems to help if it is a mild colic. Glad she is better and getting back to normal. It's very scary isn't it? We have spring shots on Friday and I am just keeping my fingers and toes crossed that no one colics from it!

So glad to hear that she is feeling better. I know it's hard to quit worrying for a while even after things get better.

kris, Arlene, Mikael, MM, Thanks all, she's back to her spunky self. I do have probiotics and banamine. Just starting her slowly back to her normal regimem.

Glad Kola is better Callie. Kids. If they arent making us laugh, they make us cry, worry, and give us copious amounts of grey hairs. She best not try and convince her sister that SHE needs to stress you out somehow too!!!

Give them both a big rub from the Southland from us!!!

Knock on wood, Mrs.Mom, Misty has never had colic, she's been injured minorly here and there and that's only when I had a big gelding out there with her. Misty is so layed back. Kola is a little more excitable and like Jess suggests, I think this is stress related. They've both been pissy in spring heat now, so I think maybe all the activity that day tipped her over the edge.
