Energy Bill Rant!

I really need to do this. We've just received our energy bill from WE Energies. We do not have a choice in which energy company we use and they are who we have. Our monthly budget has just gone up by $110 a month making our total every month year round a whopping $460 a month. This in an F-ing mortgage! I have already replaced everything is this house with energy star appliances and a new furnace 3 years ago as well as a new water heater. And replaced about 30% of old insulation! We also have a pellet burning stove in the extension. And I've changed all light bulbs to the energy saving environmentally unsafe ones. We are on every money saving plan they offer! And the government just approved this company's bid to raise prices another 10% on top of what it's already been raised! I am so pissed about this! Cost of living raises? What the "F" are those? I don't think I've ever had one. Has anyone had a 10% raise? I can't take it any longer. I have devised a "Goin' Postal" list and WE Energies is at the top of it. Along with a few other conglomerates that make high profits and screw hard working people! Man, this has really pissed me off!

Are you sure that someone isn't tapped into your meter. One of my friends found out that the neighbors house was on his. They were all one farm at one time. He was paying his neighbors electric bill for 2 years. He had over a $200 bill every month for a small 2bedroom house. I have 6 water through heaters, 3 barns, one being the indoor arena and I didn't run over $200 this last winter. Your place was part of another farm.

I don't think it is. We had one outrageous gas bill last winter and those have always been high. OUr electric runs aobut $120 a month. This months gas was only $13. I thinks its their profits and this place in the winter. I told Steve that I don't care how cold we get the furnace won't go on until Dec.1st. I'll ask Art what he pays out of curiosity, though.

I hear ya. Where's the raises in our pay to go along with this? Cost of living raises this year ought to be 50% to catch up. I don't know how people are going to make it, and what about all those folks come wintertime? Bush doesn't care, he's outta there, leaving his mess for someone else to clean up, and you know that'll take them the whole 4 yrs.
Companies folding left and right. Had a client yesterday, has to give away her 36 yr old grandkids pony and her bombproof trail horse because she was 2 yrs away from retirement and her company folded. She's looking for a new job, but I mean, c'mon. What's she sposed to do in the meanwhile?
It's damn sad what's going on right now.

I just signed a nice little ditty that knocks out my bi-annual bonus if I I exceed 72 hours in PPL in 6 months which includes sick as well as vacation. I work every single weekend for that bonus so others only have to work every third weekend. Bastards!

Sounds like you've done everything you can do on your end to help save money on heating and electric. It's too bad that the companies can get away with this nonsense. I don't know how people are going to make it, everything is so outrageous and high, while the salaries seem to be frozen way behind the times.

Arlene, I'm ranting about it all. Pisses me off really. I'm a health care worker and you wouldn't believe what I pay for crappy health insurance!

Holy Moly woman. I can't believe that. That is outrageous.

The cost of living that exceeded my "cost of living" raise is part of the reason that I moved back to SD. As much as I liked my job in AZ-I wasn't about to have to give up my horses just to keep working down there. When diesel took a $1.00 a gallon jump it pushed me over the edge and I packed up and moved home. It is so strange-I make almost nothing now and live much better than I did in AZ-when I was "making the big bucks". How crazy is that??

That's bad news about electricity prices.

Gas prices have just been hiked 35% overnight in Britain as well as electricity over 10%. This will hurt a lot of people.

The barn where I keep the two horses has just received a $1,200 monthly electricity bill for a small house, an apartment and lighting two stable blocks. We already have to put coins in a meter for the indoor school lighting. Now the owner is muttering about charging for water used to soak hay.

Meanwhile the utility companies make huge profits, and speculators make even more money selling options on fuel for the years ahead.

The problem is that this is an old converted barn, 3 stories high, and not all the insulation is up to par, so in last winter's cold, frigid cold, we had one actual heating bill of $1600 and that is what boosted our budget, however, the company keeps raising the profits!
