Flash Update
Sometimes I think your better off not knowing. The farrier looked at Flash today and doesn't believe his hoof will grow back. He is surprised that he is not lame on it. When Flash is a little older he can put a special bar shoe on to support the heel that is missing. It's going to test my doctoring skills to the limit. He is healing nicely. I'm working on getting him out of the stall into a grassy area. As long as he can move around on it without pain I have to give him a chance. Good thing he is a good patient. I had my two old foundered mares put down this year, now I have this to deal with. I've been trying to keep Gerald from selling his yearlings and broodmare, now I have to agree with him. This will take up so much of my time.

Sorry to hear about Flash's problem. Have you tried an easy boot on him? I had a horse with a foot injury and it worked pretty well.
Good luck, hang in there
Becca
Oh no, just oh no.......I don't even know what to say, Jess. I hope enough grows back so that he'll be able to support himself without great pain.
You and your colt have been on my mind, thanks for the update. Please keep us posted.
I am sorry to hear that but, just give it time-miraculous things can and do happen. He is very young!
Really sorry to hear about your colt's accident. How terrifying. I hope he turns out ok.
Thanks everyone! I went into check him tonight and he spins on the little blue bandaged foot. I'm going to pick up some supplements with biotin tomorrow. Becca, I think when he gets older that may be an option. He is only 5 months old, I don't think they come that small. I will get pictures next time we change the bandage. It is really amazing that he isn't lame, it gives me hope.
Best of luck Jess. I will be thinking strong hoof growing thoughts for Flash.
