WTF?

Oh, My blood is boiling! The audacity and BALLS! I just received a phone call asking for my daughter by name. I asked who this was and he replied, " The Army office in Burlington.". I said excuse me? This is pertaining to what? And by the way she is at University. He then asked which school? IN which I replied, " I don't think I have to tell you that.". And he said thank-you and hung up. WTF? I have not nor has my daughter ever given this phone number to an Army recruiter. I'd like to know how they got it? However, when she was in high school, the school forced all the kids to go to an in-school army recruitment assembly, which at the time I highly objected to! How is this constitutional? I'd like to know! If I volunteer, that's one thing! But I don't want the government's hand in my child's life, unless she so chooses. As far as I know, as of right now, there is no draft! I am pissed! I just may call them back and ask a few more questions! You can imagine, this just took me by surprise! WTF?

How scary! Do you think it was truly who he said he was? Not to scare you or make you more mad, but what if that is just a new form of trying to get information!! Good for you! Next time just say you are her and find out what the hell they want!!

I didn't even think of what TW suggested! Scary.
So did you find out anything more?

TW has a great idea. Actually, I have a very masculine name and was asked by the govt. to register for the draft - they sent me very nasty letters!

Thanks Gals, I didn't pursue it any further after I cooled out. I'm sure they have to do all they can to recruit for an unpopular war! People don't want to volunteer for something they can't understand at this point.

We had monthly phone calls for my daughter during her senior year of high school from the Army recruiters. But we also had weekly phone calls from college recruiters. She told everyone she's already committed to a university. They kept calling back, and she just had to be broken record. It was annoying.

That would have pissed me off too. I'm sorry they've harassed you, I wish the government wasn't so powerful in our Nation. We've given them way way way too much control. Too bad the people won't take that control back! That'd be the day... We've all grown way to lazy. :(

Yikes! I didn't know they could do that...and then to hang up on you? WTF is right. I would have been calling that number back and asking to speak to his superior. I don't think that they are supposed to be hanging up on people, I mean really...that's not very professional.

The army is short of enlisted personnel here too, though it has a surplus of officers. However, some officer recruits whom I spoke to recently were all seeking to join non-combatant units such as field hospitals. Meanwhile reservists are leaving in droves. The response: "marketing" aimed at children - their future recruits.

Yes, and while he was asking questions lets just give him her new address, phone number, social security number....What was he thinking. He should have told you why he was calling. Maybe it was a scam!!

It was a bit scary, more so infuriating to me!

That is ridiculous....I really hope the military hasn't resorted to cold calling high school students...pretty scary if they have.
