Names???

I finally named her. I'm calling her Cricket. Sometimes names come to me easy, I try to use part of their registered name when I can. I don't like her registered name and may put out the fee to change it. I walked out of my house yesterday and there was a huge walking stick on my car. They are not common to this area so I thought it was really bizarre. Then I go to the one pen to feed horses and a large cricket is sitting on the fence post. That was the second bug in a strange place, so I had to name her after the cricket. The little colt I named Zip. It is part of the sires name and I will have it in his registered name. The little red dun filly is Robin, Gerald named her. The only one left to name is my pretty little palomino. I'm having a little harder time with a name for her. I don't like typical horse names, sometimes they get named because of something they do. With Kermit he tried to get up too soon after birth and fell back on his butt. He looked like a frog sitting there with his tail under him and his back legs bent like a frog. How do you come up with names?

I'm kinda like you! What ever comes to me, sometimes in a book, or a song or a vision. Mostly though I don't get to name any of my animals- my kids and hubby get to do that.sigh* But then again, they are much better at it than me!

Cricket's a cute name...much betetr than naming her 'Walking Stick" lol!

I rarely ever name my animals. I usually wait for them to name themselves.

I have a Cricket yearling filly--I named her after an entry I took at a ranch sorting--a guy named Cricket. I thought that was odd. But it stuck in my head

I usually have a friend's kid make lists of names for me and then one will jump out at me and it sticks

My horses are always older but I've helped name a few...
Such as a gorgeous deep gold palomino filly (Calypso)
and my friend's first horse (Rory)
and my mom and dad's one and only horse (Epic)

I'm glad Cricket fits her. She is one of my favorites right now. I wanted her the minute I saw her. It isn't often that I fall in love at first site. I did with Spider and my mare Patti. Both sorrels, I usually don't care for flashy colors. Epic is a real cool name, it almost fits my palomino. I may have to think on that one.

I'm like you-I do like to use part of their registered name-Moon, Okie, Rip, Frosty-they all got named that way.
Sometimes names just stick-Strawberry and Chunk-they were inadvertent descriptions that stuck to them and became their names.
A few have names that just popped into my head and stuck-Shooter, Woofer and Queenie-something that reflected a personality trait.

I do like Cricket for the buckskin. I have known some really nice horses named Cricket-maybe a good omen? The Chinese think crickets are good luck!
