IT'S A FILLY!!!

Between 9:30 and 10:00 pm tonight Stacy gave foal to a beautiful bay filly. I checked at 9:30 and she was just laying there resting. At 10 pm Gerald and I went to move her into the barn because of the storms coming. There the filly was still half in the bag sitting up wondering what to do next. She was up before Mom. She did get a little help, she wanted to get moving. When Stacy got up I led her to the barn and Gerald carried the filly. He thought that she was around 80 pounds. Good thing he didn't have to go far. Stacy cleaned out by 10:30 and the baby is still trying to latch on. She is hungry so it won't take long. I tried to help a little bit and she would get my finger. She will figure it out, mom wanted me to leave them alone. She was tolerent at first, when I went back to check her she pinned her ears back. I won't sleep until I see her suck.

I checked around midnight and she was trying to suck Stacy dry. She is already bouncing off the walls. I am so happy she is like that. We are still cautious about Gerald's Mary mare's filly. She is still a little weak, she was born yesterday. Sometimes they are born with a belly ache from the stress of birth. I give them probiotics for 3 days and they seem to come out of it. I wouldn't let Callie take a picture of that one. I get to emotional when I see the pictures when they don't make it. We lost a couple a few years back when a bunch of foals in the area where getting scours right after they were born and died. That year had a lot of miscarriages too.

Oh Yay! A bay! LOL, At Stacy pinning hers back, It cracks me up that, Zoe, my non-horsey daughter finds your crankiest mares to her favorites! Just kills me!

The pics are on Jess, we live an hour and a half away from each other and It's rare that we get to each others. Maybe I'll get there this weekend and get some. But, tomorrow we go all the way to Missouri to pick up Zoe and won't be home until Friday evening and I suspect Zoe will have me running on Saturday to get the essentials she needs to live, LOL!

If the weather breaks I can get some pictures. We have storms going through so they have to stay in. I cannot get the flash to work on my camera. I tried tonight, she was laying on top of Stacy's hay. It's an Oak thing, they protect their food from early on. Callie's farrier Jeremiah experienced Stacy first hand. My little filly is everything I was hoping for. Now to find her a fitting name, I haven't a clue on this one.
